I was asked this question by one of our members this week. But before I share the answer that I gave them let me say that I think if someone is asking such a question that it says a lot about them. To me it says, “I care about my salvation and I don’t want to be lost.”

Let me also say that it would trouble me if anyone would not be concerned about their salvation and losing the opportunity to go to heaven. Sadly, I sense that there are some who never give the status of their salvation another thought and this causes me to wonder if such a person thinks that they cannot fall away and I would beseech them to read 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

That being said, let me return to the answer that I gave. I started out by answering their question with a question, “Why are you missing?” Then I stated, “There are things that can’t be prevented but there are things that are allowed.” I continued to say, “The question we must sincerely and seriously ask is “Why?” I then went on to ask another question and that question is “Would God approve?” I then directed the questioner to 2 Corinthians 13:5-6 and asked them to consider the “TEST” pointed to in this text.

With all this being stated I want everyone to know that I am not the judge regarding any one’s salvation. I will also state that no one is the judge of another individual’s salvation. None of us can take others to heaven nor can any of us send others to hell.

“There is only One lawgiver and judge, He who is able to save and to destroy.

 But who are you to judge your neighbor?”James 4:12

 “Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged;

Behold, the Judge is standing at the door.” James 5:9

These passages along with others teach us clearly that it is not our place to judge anyone. They also make it very clear that there is only One judge. That’s why I do my best to point those with questions about their salvation to the One who can save and destroy and that is Jesus.

So how would Jesus answer such a question or in that case any question regarding judgment?

“Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. And whoever sees Me sees Him who sent Me. I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in Me may not remain in darkness. If anyone hears My words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. The one who rejects Me and does not receive My words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.” John 12:44-48

So what does the Word of God teach on this important subject?

“Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, NOT neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the DAY drawing near.” Hebrews 10:24-25
